Recruitment

Are you ready to be a Farmer of the Sea?

We have lots of different jobs and careers for people who like working outdoors and who want to live and work on beautiful Prince Edward Island.

What is aquaculture?

Many Islanders make their living from the sea. You probably already know about lobster fishing. But did you know that we grow fish on PEI? It’s a lot like raising animals on a regular farm, except the animals grow in the water instead of on the land.

What kind of fish do we grow on PEI?

Hundreds of islanders work throughout the year to grow oysters, mussels, and certain types of fin fish. It’s a smart way to grow healthy and sustainable seafood that is good to eat, good for the environment, and contributes great value to the island economy.

What kind of jobs are there?

You can work on a boat. You can tend the fish. You can drive a truck. There are many ways you can get started as a fish farmer, and many jobs don’t require any special training or education. Once you have some experience, there are so many ways you can grow and advance!

How do I get started?

The first step is to find a fish farm that is hiring. Did you know there are XXX fish farms all across the Island? The busiest time of the year on an oyster farm or mussel farm is the spring and summer, but most have year-round steady work. On a fin fish farm, the animals are grown in tanks on the land. It’s a way that we can protect the fish, protect the environment, and ensure the best possible growing conditions for the fish. Fin fish farms run year-round.

Is this a good career?

You can make a good living. You can be part of a team with steady work and benefits. And you can live in PEI!

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. Well, the fish is the catch. It’s hard work, but it’s a good job raising healthy food that people love all over the world. Be proud of the work you do each day and Grow Your Future as a Farmer of the Sea.
