Ben Normand
Atlantic Aqua Farms
Ben Normand has always loved the ocean. Therefore, he always knew he wanted a career working on it, near it, and with it.
Ben has been working in the aquaculture industry for about seven years. He started his career in New Zealand as a salmon farmer, but when an Assistant Farm Manager opportunity arose at Atlantic Aqua Farms, he jumped at it. He and his family moved to PEI and he has never looked back.
Ben was able to transfer a lot of skills from his past experiences around the world to his new role. Although every place is different, there are still the same tides and same currents. As long as he’s on the water, he can adjust and be comfortable. He is really appreciative that he was able to fully train on the job and that PEI’s aquaculture industry provides real opportunities for growth and a long meaningful career.
Ben is a steward of the sea. With ocean health currently struggling, he believes that aquaculture is the solution for future sustainability. “People are never going to stop wanting seafood,” says Ben. More than half the world’s seafood is already grown, and someday that could reach 100%. A big part of Ben’s identity as a farmer of the sea is his role in feeding the world today and into the future.
