Brian Linton

Aquaculture Manager (ONDA)

What is your name and what do you do here?

My name is Brian Linton and I’m the Aquaculture Manager for the Souris facility.

What do you like about the work that you do?

I like getting the best out of my employees. I like working with every employee to see where their strengths are and, even better, where their weaknesses are. I like to get the best out of everybody. I also am very passionate about animal welfare and our husbandry tasks.

What did you do for work or school before coming here?

I’m an electrician by trade and been in and out of the seafood industry since I was 16. I used to sell and distribute seafood all around the world and then worked in production management for different seafood companies.

Tell me about a typical day of work.
When does it start and what kind of duties do you do?

My job typically starts right around six o’clock in the morning when our night shift leaves the site, and I get on site around seven. I do a walkthrough of each area, making sure everything is ready to go for the day, and then I hand off any daily tasks to my two supervisors, one in each area.

What would you tell someone who is curious about working here?

I’d say it’s a great, great atmosphere to work in. You get to work with people all around the world and people who want to make a difference in the aquaculture sector. We have highly trained Aquaculture Technicians here and we really value continuing education and training for them. We try to get them into courses happening at Holland College and elsewhere in the Atlantic Region. There are always aquaculture courses running, so it’s a good opportunity for us to make sure that everyone is trained to the best of their abilities. I love that.

What’s the coolest, best thing about what you do here that the average person might not know?

I think one of the coolest things is seeing people succeed. This company is full of successes and when milestones are hit, it’s nice to see the look on someone’s face when they’ve achieved a goal. I’ve also enjoyed seeing the growth in this company. I started here in 2019, and we’ve grown to a great place where everyone on the team is valued.
