Greg Clark

CAPTAIN

What do you do in the world of mussel farming?

I’m a mussel boat captain. I take the crew out and we do hang and harvest socks. I’m the one in charge of the boat.

What’s the best part of this work?

I love that it’s steady work. It’s nice physical work, and I’m outside all day, every day. Plus, I get to see some great scenery.

How did you get started in mussel farming?

I basically came here right after school. I worked a few part-time jobs throughout the summer, like at McDonald’s and blueberry picking, but I started here pretty much right after I finished high school.

What advice would you give to someone considering work on a mussel farm?

If you’re looking for a career that combines physical work, outdoor adventure, and the satisfaction of bringing great seafood to tables, then a job on a mussel boat might be for you. You don’t need a fancy education to find good work on the water – just a strong work ethic, a love for the outdoors, and a willingness to learn.
